Olliolli 3ds review5/15/2023 ![]() This singular button approach to the game not only makes things simple but also adds another layer of depth and challenge to the game – fortunately for us all of the controls are explained before you’re even allowed to play the game, so you’ll never go-in blind. OlliOlli may not feature as many tricks as EA’S Skate but there are a fair amount of tricks for use within the game, such as the iconic Kickflip or the simplistic Nosegrind – but what it lacks in variety is overshadowed by the way these tricks are performed as everything is controlled by a single input. ![]() Let’s not forget OlliOlli is a skateboarding game at heart and as such players can perform tricks in order to acquire a high score – scores which are needed to complete the challenges on each level. These challenges vary per level and other than obtaining a high-score you’ll never see the same challenge twice – and you won’t find any HIDDEN TAPES here either. Anyone can easily playthrough the 25 levels, which are separated into five different environments (Urban, Junkyard, Port, Base and Neon City), but it’s the challenge of obtaining all five stars in a level that extends the gameplay time and separates the dedicated to the causal. In hindsight this is OlliOlli’s true objective obtaining a 5-star ranking on each level in addition to completing the game. That’s pretty much it – as upon reaching the end of the current level the next level will be unlocked however to spice-up the gameplay each level features five challenges with each challenge awarding a star to that level so a total of 5 stars can be earned per level. So what is OlliOlli all about? Well as previously mentioned it’s a 2D Skateboarding game designed as a platformer – or at least that’s my take on it – whereby the objective of the game is to reach the end of each level without bailing (or in this case bouncing) onto the ground. It’s simple, it’s addictive and it definitely has that “I’ll just have one more go” approach. Having never played the original Playstation version I was walking in to OlliOlli partly blind but after 15 minutes with the games informative and through tutorial I was quickly enjoying what I had surprisingly missed out on the positivity and hype surrounding OllIOlli is well deserved and this port also deserves that attention. The success and positivity surrounding Roll7’s 2D skateboarding game OlliOlli has always alluded me, mostly due to the fact that the game seemed to play like a 2D Platformer but never-the-less here we are with its 3DS/Wii U port developed by Curve Studios.
